Old Dogs & New Tricks

Remember in school, a very philosophic teacher would just blurt out the statement: "You can't teach an old dog new tricks..." and ask what the class thought about it? I'd dread being called since what my heart said contended with what my mind thought.
On the 12th of August of this year would mark my 37th year of existence...and for the past 15 years I can easily look anyone in the eye and answer that philosophic question...Without my heart and mind in contradiction.
Finding out the answer took long due to an amusement park ride (called LIFE) there were experiences where I emerge from all bumped and bruised...but wiser than I was at the start.

Being a writer whose favorite subject is the dog, I have come across advices, tips and training for canine friends. Here is what I've understood so far:

In most stories and shared articles, it has always stressed that a dogs breed and lineage/ pedigree have a great influence with its physical appearance, talents, versatility, temperament and skill.

Lots of stories, especially from breeders, share that a dog is "associated" with things it may not instinctively accept. It is conditioned to accept situation as normal even if it would be un-normal (considering its being just an animal).

I've learned from an animal shelter site in the US that abused dogs have been adopted by new homes and have exhibited a better disposition than when they were tethered or hurt or neglected even.

To connect the start with the middle, I end with these lines...
We are born into this world unique and with potential tobe the best we can strive for.
We are brought up by parents whose responsibility is to teach us right. With the help of relatives who either make one heck of a good role model OR one who is a good example of a bad example...
As we explore our lives with the tools our family have armed us with (inadequately or adequately it doesn't matter) we see for ourselves if they were of good use...or maybe we didn't grasp how to...or we just forgot to use it altogether...
Our lives do not stop after every mistake or triumph, we continue trudging the road to self improvement.
The only time that we may stop is when we are taken from this world by Divine assessment...I believe that only God punches our ticket and says "That's enough, child"

Personally, old dogs can learn new tricks, I know I have...
